The Most Severe Events in the History of Wichita Tornado Storms

Storms Can Cause Damage To Homes

Wichita is the largest city in Kansas and also one of largest settlements in the Great Plains in the south-central region of the US. Located at the limits the country’s humid subtropical climate zone, far from any moderating formations, such as mountains or the sea, Wichita gets hot, wet summers, dry, cold winters and is often victim to the most horrible, devastating storms in the US, thus having a great demand for Wichita remodeling contractors for rebuilding – here are some of the strongest and meanest tornados in Wichita history:

  • September 3, 1965 – the storm affected the entire city, but the area that was the most affected was the northeast. The storm left behind damages that totaled at 25 million dollars, 27 injured, out of which 18 people, most of them injured at an ice cream shop, needed hospital treatment. No fatalities were recorded;
  • April 26, 1991 – the largest and deadliest storm ever recorded in Wichita history travelled 46 miles, causing 300 million dollars of damage, 225 injuries and 17 fatalities;
  • May 3, 1999 – the storm formed just a few miles off the city and it became over half a mile wide in a few minutes, devastating the south of the city, destroying 150 homes more than 25 businesses.
